Mapusa: The Assagao Panchayat and Comunidade on Friday conducted a joint inspection of an alleged illegal hill cutting and road construction in Survey no 97/2 after villagers complained and raised a hue and cry about the illegalities
On Friday, Sarpanch Hanumant Naik and members of the Comunidade along with villagers inspected the site during which they found that a concrete road of 3 metres was constructed while hill cutting was being carried out by a builder.
Villagers alleged that the area is a bio diversity hot spot and flayed attempts to concretise the hill.
“We had filed complaints with all the concerned authorities. If the road is existing, then why is the hill being cut? We are going to pursue the matter with the Town and Country Planning Department and restore the land to its original state,” said Avertino Miranda.
“The Panchayat needs to act as we have elected these representatives to protect our village,” Ranjit Parsekar, a local youth said.
Communidade Attorney Nelson Fernandes however said they had granted the NOC and the road was already existing in the old cadastral plan and it’s legal.
Earlier the Flying Squad Team had inspected the site on February 2 and had reported that hill cutting was carried out in the area.
