Authorities have dismissed viral social media claims regarding the collapse of the Salaulim Dam, clarifying that the reports are false and misleading.
Officials explained that the concern arose due to a temporary 12-hour shutdown necessitated by a technical issue affecting one of the pump sets under the JICA project. They stressed that the incident was limited to equipment maintenance and had no connection to the structural integrity of the dam.
Assistant Engineer Naresh Hede confirmed that two pump sets are functioning normally and that the water supply to Vasco and surrounding areas has remained uninterrupted despite the temporary technical snag.
The authorities urged the public not to rely on unverified information circulating on social media and appealed to citizens to seek updates only from official sources to avoid unnecessary panic.
The clarification comes amid heightened public concern over water supply and infrastructure, with officials reiterating that the Salaulim Dam is safe and that there has been no collapse or threat to its operations.
