“The Panchayat had rejected the BDO’s memorandum on compliance of the audit report at the panchayat meeting held last week since the panchayat was not a party to the High Court proceedings. We had taken the stand after obtaining legal opinion”, Vaz informed moments after the police attached the CPU, the inward-outward register, besides proceedings of the meeting.
Vaz explained that the Mormugao BDO had sent a memorandum to the panchayat mandating the body to pay an amount of Rs 25,000 for the panchayat’s failure to comply with the audit report. He, however, hastened to add that the panchayat was never a part to the proceedings to the High court, which had issued directions on the mater.
When the sleuths of the investigating agency along with the in-charge of Colva police station PI Uttam Raut Desai descended on the Majorda panchayat ghar, the sarpanch and other panchayat members were all outside, even as the raiding party carried out the search inside and later lifted away the attached items.
