BICHOLIM: Bicholim mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit has directed Bicholim Police traffic cell-in-charge to take necessary action against the congestion and unhygienic conditions caused by the fish vendors at the roadside of the main junction at Karapur-Tisk.
It may be recalled that, the fish vendors from Karapur village panchayat area in Bicholim taluka used to sell fish by seating on the roadside of the Karapur-Tisk junction. Consequently, the people who were coming for purchasing the fish were parking their vehicles in a haphazard manner thus causing traffic obstruction.
With Karapur-Tisk junction being situated on NH-17 highway the speed of the vehicles passing through this road is very fast due to which there are possibilities of causing accidents. The fish vendors have been blamed for the unhygienic conditions for allegedly not taking necessary sanitary precautions, which has been troubling the locals.
During the period of Ganeshotsav celebrations, fish vendors used to shift to another place, as the area near the spot where they currently sit, is utilised for worshipping Sarvajanik Ganesh. However, at the shifted location too, there was traffic congestion.
When all this was brought to the attention of Bicholim mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit by the Karapur-Sarvan village panchayat authorities, he assured to look into the matter. On Tuesday, he issued the directions to Bicholim Police traffic cell and enclosed a copy of the complaint letter sent by the Karapur-Sarvan Sarpanch.
The Mamlatdar has also directed the Sarpanch to take necessary action against the fish vendors if they are operating their business without availing permission of panchayat. So also he has also directed the talathi of the panchayat file a check list to see if the fish vendors have erected any illegal sheds to conduct their business.
