To be handed over to Lokayukta next week

PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that he had cleared the file pertaining to the case about the civil liabilities arising due to the mining scam while led to loss to the state exchequer, during the tenure of the former Congress-led government. The case is to be handed over to the Lokayukta next week.
Parrikar, who holds Mines portfolio, said that he has cleared the file to hand over the mining case to Lokayukta. He, however, did not disclose any details of the case.
Sources revealed that the complaint would be made before Lokayukta by next week and that civil liabilities of illegal mining include the loss to the state exchequer, loss to the environment, encroachment outside the mining leases etc.
As reported by Herald earlier, various politicians including then Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, bureaucrats and mine owners are likely to be named as accused in the case. The criminal liability of the scam is being investigated by Anti Corruption Bureau.
Justice M B Shah Commission exposed the illegal mining scam estimated around Rs 35,000 crore. The Shah Commission findings had named Kamat amongst others for the illegalities in the mining and export business.
It is not clear whether the officials of Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) and Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) would also be named as accused in the case.
The Shah Commission in its report has also named upon MoEF and IMB officials for shielding illegalities in the mining sector.
