The residents of Colamb, a village in Can acona taluka, have voiced serious concern over the prolonged disruption in water and electricity sup ply, which they say has thrown daily life out of gear for nearly a week. Despite repeated com plaints to the authorities, no effective steps have been taken to resolve the prob lem. Locals said the water supply has been irregular for the past four days, caus ing tremendous inconven ience to households. The residents allege that the issue stems from the failure of the concerned depart ment to pump water from the main tank in a timely manner, even though the monsoon season continues and water sources are not scarce. “It is extremely frustrat ing to face water shortage during the monsoon, espe cially when the problem is due to sheer negligence,” a resident remarked. Adding to their difficul ties, the electricity supply in the area has been unsta ble for the last five days, marked by frequent pow er cuts and voltage fluc tuations. Residents said that such erratic power supply has not only affect ed household chores but has also damaged electri cal appliances in several homes. “We have been filing com plaints with the electricity department, but so far, no official has visited our area to inspect the problem,” lo cals complained. The villagers also fear that these prolonged dis ruptions could hamper the budding tourism industry in the region. “Colamb has started at tracting small-scale tour ism activity, with a few guesthouses and home stays coming up. But with such unreliable power and water supply, tourists are bound to stay away,” said Abhay Dhuri, who has been representing the villagers’ concerns. Residents have now urged their local MLA and minister to intervene im mediately and coordinate with the concerned depart ments to restore normalcy. They have also demanded a permanent solution to these recurring problems, such as regular mainte nance of the pumping sys tem and upgrading of the power infrastructure to withstand fluctuations. “The authorities must treat this as a matter of pri ority. It is unfair that people continue to suffer due to administrative lapses. We request the government to ensure reliable water and electricity supply and to put in place preventive measures to avoid such breakdowns in the future,” Dhuri added.
