MARGAO: Even as PSI Anand Shirodkar returned to Colva Police Station on Tuesday along with his three team mates and the couple involved in the murder of 24-year-old Assamese Samuel alias Rahul Soren, the motive for the murder remains elusive and police will have to tie up the loose ends in the next five days as the couple has been remanded in police custody for five days.
Police Inspector Filomeno Costa revealed that while all four admited to their involvement in the murder, they are giving different reasons for it and further disclosed that the three men are now trying to blame the woman as being the one who killed the youngster.
It may be recalled that Samuel was killed on December 12 when he had gone to the house of Magna alias Suraj and his wife Etna Devi at Varca to celebrate the couple’s daughter’s birthday. Magna’s two friends Pradeep Haro and Safar Khan who had also come for the party and the couple together killed Samuel at around 3 pm.
Later in the night the three males reportedly buried the body away from the house and close to the beach. Police exhumed the body on December 17 and on December 18 night they arrested Pradeep and Safar from Raia, Santemol.
While Pradeep and Safar claim that Samuel was killed because he was having an affair with Etna Devi, Etna Devi along with her husband Magna’s story is that Samuel molested Etna Devi on that day because of which he was beaten up.
A four-member police team comprising of Head Constable Anil Gaonkar, Police Constable Keshav Salgaonkar and Lady Police Constable Sunaya Warik left for Jharkhand on December 19 and apprehended the couple on December 22 at Palkut.
PSI Anand Shirodkar who headed the team disclosed that naxalites are very strong in the area which is barely 155 kms away from the Nepal border. “The police station at Palkut has a CRPF company guarding it in the night,” revealed Anand.
Filomeno was all praise for his team who took such a risky mission that had them even sleeping on the railway platforms while going to Jharkhand and also while returning to Goa. “The return journey was tough as they had to sleep on the platform with the accused who could have fled at any moment,” he said.
Incidentally, the seven-day remand of Pradeep and Safar has been extended by another 5 days and coupled with the five day custody of Magna and Etna Devi, the police will have to find out the motive for the murder within these days.
