PANJIM: As BJP national working President J P Nadda is set to address public rally in support of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Panjim on Friday, the Congress has demanded that the leader should first apologise to the people of Goa for cheating them on Mhadei River water diversion issue.
Addressing media persons on Thursday, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar said that Nadda, who is coming to explain to people the benefits of Citizenship Act, should first clear Centre’s stand on Mhadei River issue.
“Even before commencing his speech on CAA, Nadda should first apologise to the people of Goa for cheating them on Mhadei River issue. Central government has done complete injustice to the people of Goa,” he said.
Chodankar demanded that Nadda should assure people to withdraw the consent letter issued by MoEF to Karnataka for Kalasa-Bhanduri project and that it will abide by Supreme Court decision.
Further, Congress leader said that Nadda should also clarify to three lakh people, dependent on mining industry, when the iron ore activities will resume. “Why is that Central government not taking any steps to restart mining activities?” he questioned.
“Increasing unemployment, economic slowdown, effect of demonetisation, etc, are some of the other issues, which needs to be addressed by Nadda,” he said.
Earlier, Congress spokesperson Trajano D’Mello demanded that Centre should further amend Citizenship Act for Goans, who have obtained Portuguese passport. He said that the amendment should be introduced in Parliament, stating that people of Goa, who have obtained Portuguese passport, will get their citizenship back, once they surrender overseas citizens of India (OCI) card.
