MARGAO: The Congress party in Goa has blasted the government for not improving the quality of water supplied to the people, which it claimed is toxic due to the presence of manganese.
“The level of manganese in Selaulim and for that matter all the water bodies of Goa is beyond permissible limit. The water levels at the Selaulim dam is frighteningly low to the increase in consumption,” Congress spokesperson Avinash Tavares said.
The Congress also condemned the government for arresting Cavrem villagers. Extending its support to Orixtt Porjecho Awaz in its fight against the Defence Expo, the Congress said that the court is the only place for people to get justice.
“The Congress fully supports the Cavrem villagers who were arrested earlier on Monday. Since transport contractors had taken away the livelihood of the villagers by transporting ore, stopping the same was not wrong. Moreover, there are many irregularities in the transport system such as overloading of trucks,” Avinash said.
