PANJIM: Goa Governor Mridula Sinha has declared Rs 1 lakh cash award to the town achieving excellence in cleanliness by December 2016.
Sinha, a Brand Ambassador for the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, was addressing a meeting of self help groups, voluntary organizations, heads of educational institutions, hoteliers, industrialists, media persons, real estate developers, Chairmen of Municipality Councils, religious heads etc.
She said a State level committee, constituted to assess activities undertaken by the stakeholders, will recommend the town for the award. The winner will be awarded at the Goa Liberation Day reception hosted at Raj Bhavan on December 19. The towns in the competition include Panjim, Mapusa, Ponda, Vasco and Margao.
Appealing to stakeholders to continue contributing to the success of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, she said Goa is comparatively clean for which the credit goes to the people.
The Governor felicitated PC Chacko, Station Superintendent and Avadhesh Kumar, Health Inspector at Vasco Railway station for their excellence in cleanliness.
