PANJIM:  The first list of Congress candidates for Goa Assembly polls, will be out by next week, as disclosed by Goa Pradesh Congress committee president Subhash Shirodkar.

Addressing a press conference at Congress House, Panjim, Shirodkar said that seat-sharing with Nationalist Congress Party should also be finalised by then.

“On January 24th, the screening committee will have a meeting, followed by a central election committee meet on January 25th or 26th,” he informed.

Shirodkar, pointing to reports in the media (not Herald), has refuted reports that any list has been finalised thus far.

“Not a single ticket (nomination) has been finalised as that will happen only after the seat-sharing with NCP is decided, also on January 23rd or 24th,” he said.

Asked to comment on the failure of talks with MGP, Shirodkar said, “you can reconfirm with MGP office bearers – Sudin or Dipak Dhavalikar, the talks are still on and we are confident.”

To another query he replied that no policy decisions had been taken on how many tickets would be given per family or if those with criminal background would be considered for tickets (nominations).

GPCC president also says that the party has no record of candidates with criminal background. “The screening committee and the central election committee will decide on the matter,” he informed.
