Pavni was caught by the Indian Reserve battalion (IRB) constables at the frisking point of the jail. The suspended constable was posted on duty in the inner cordon of the jail. He had undergone training and passed out at Delhi six months back.

The Colvale jail is always shrouded in controversy with police constables, jail guards and even inmates were often found carrying cell phones and drugs inside the premises. Nonetheless the Goa police have also been in the news for wrong reasons of late. The image of men in khaki has been sullied as traffic cops were recently suspended on alleged corruption charges. The IRB recruit Amit Naik escaping with notorious Siddiqui Khan form the Crime Branch jail had left the police department red faced earlier.
