Cops grill Bogmalo victim’s ‘lover’

‘Main accused’ Yadav sent to five days police custody

PANJIM: Vasco Police on Sunday questioned the girl in connection with the murder of 30-year-old Amar Naik of New Vaddem, Vasco in the Bogmalo shootout case.

According to available information, the girl also hails from New Vaddem, Vasco and was in love with the victim. Her brother, who is currently in the Gulf, was opposed to their relationship and as both belonged to different religions, police said.

On the other hand, Ravi Shankar Yadav, a native of Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh and currently residing at Anjuna, was remanded in five days police custody by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Vasco on Sunday. 

Police said Yadav had hired both the contract killers namely Shailesh Gupta (29) and Shivam Singh (22) from Mumbai to kill Naik.

Yadav was born and brought up in Vasco before he shifted to his native State. He used to often visit his friends in the port town. He later started residing in Anjuna and was unemployed.

Police suspect that the girl’s brother to have contacted Yadav and told him to hire contract killers to eliminate Naik. Yadav then contacted both the contract killers, who first arrived in Goa on July 7 and did recce of the area and finalised the deal before returning to Mumbai.

Yadav is also learnt to have provided two country-made pistols and cartridges to the assailants, who killed Naik.
