PERNEM: The Pernem Municipal Council has to pay Welma Construction Company Rs 50 lakh for cleaning the bus stand after the firm won the law suit against the civic body. The PMC did not pay the Rs 18 lakh to the company as per the contract, forcing the company to go to court. This matter came up for discussion at PMC meeting which happened on Monday. PMC resolved to write to the Directorate of Municipal Administration seeking its cooperation in this regard.
PMC passed another resolution to install CCTV cameras around the garbage treatment plant as one of the motors was stolen. It was also decided to write to the Home Ministry to install CCTV cameras at specific spots in the municipal areas to prevent robberies.

MLA Pravin Arlekar, chairperson Siddhesh Pednekar as well as councillors advised to recover the pending dues of the PMC so that pending salaries of municipal employees can be paid. They stated that media coverage of pending salaries of the employees is bringing a bad name to the civic body. Some claimed that one of the employees who is supposed to recover the dues is not doing it in a timely manner and councillors raised objections on the respective employee’s working style.
MLA Arlekar directed the respective employee to do his duty on time and advised to take help from an accountant or other workers.
Deputy chairperson Ashwini Palyekar, municipal chief officer Anil Rane Sardesai, councillors Usha Nagvekar, Vishakha Gadekar, Trupti Sawal Desai, Vishnu Salgaonkar, Madhav Shenvi Desai, Manoj Harmalkar and Shivram Tukoji were present at the meeting.
