MARGAO: Curtorim villagers on Saturday cried foul over the construction of a road leading to a hillock at Batora in the village without the necessary
approvals.
A local resident Bruno Lourenco demanded to know how a road can be constructed without the required permissions and demanded an immediate stop to the ongoing work. He said the villagers will not allow the work to continue, saying they intend to stage a hunger strike at the site and explore the possibility of knocking on the doors of the court for relief.
“We were shocked and surprised when about 10 truck-load of rubble stone were dumped for the road construction when there is no permission from the local panchayat body,” Bruno told the media. “Peace in the village has been disturbed in recent times with the controversial hotel project and now this controversial road project comes along,” he said. Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, who also visited the site said the contractor has been asked to stop the ongoing work. He pointed that the villagers will not allow any work on the road, leave alone developing the hillock.
“I am surprised that work on the road was being carried out without panchayat permission. The villagers are totally opposed to the road project,” Reginaldo added.
