VASCO: A 44-year-old man was arrested by Verna Police on Thursday on charges of sexually assaulting his two daughters.
According to Verna Police, the incident came to light about five days ago, when the accused sexually assaulted his younger daughter (13), who was staying with her grandmother. When neighbours came to know about the incident, they alerted an NGO ‘CRY’, police added.
During counselling, the younger sister informed the NGO that she had been sexually assaulted by her father. The elder daughter (19), who was also counselled by the NGO, revealed that she was also sexually assaulted by her father in 2008.
Verna Police arrested the man under Sections 354, 376 and 8 (2) of Goa Children’s Act and is investigating the case.
The shocking incident has added to list of heinous crimes against minors in Mormugao taluka.
Incidentally, the arrest comes on a day when the ‘People Against Atrocities and Injustice (PAAI)’, a group formed to fight against atrocities and sexual assaults on women and minors, had met in the port town and criticised the delay in arresting the accused who had sexually assaulted a Vasco schoolgirl in a school toilet.
Earlier on Wednesday, Vasco Police had arrested a 38-year-old resident of Vaddem on charges of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy in his car at Chicalim the previous night.
The accused, Chalton Barnetto, has been remanded to five days police custody, after he was produced before the Vasco JMFC on Thursday.
