PANJIM: The Goa government is contemplating on either slashing its rates levied on tax for vehicles entering Goa or working on concessions while introducing the pass system, in a bid to appease agitated transporters threatening to stop entry of goods and passenger vehicles from midnight of May 12.
While a solution was expected as soon as the Budget session of the Assembly concluded, authorities say that the government will be taking a decision shortly.
The All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) has stayed firm on its decision to commence its protest from Sunday (midnight) if the government fails to take note of its demands for a roll back of the entry tax what they claim to be illegal.
Sources in the government are tight lipped on what stand the government intends taking after the strike call given by the AIMTC.
