The forum has repeatedly appealed to consecutive chief ministers to grant the pension and other benefits to the teachers who were forced to retire at the age of 58. Ten years have now passed.
Former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and current CM Laxmikant Parsekar recently assured the aggrieved teachers that the government would pay them their dues.
Forum president Neves Anthony Rebello also requested the CM to direct the Director of Education and the joint secretary to issue orders to the respective zones and heads of private-aided secondary and higher secondary schools to re-fix the pay of the prematurely-retired teachers. He said, “Last year in October the file was moved, but nothing has happened since. How long do they expect us to wait?” said Rebello
He called for two increments to facilitate calculation of gratuity and leave encashment of the aggrieved teachers as recorded in their service books without wasting time.
The forum pointed out that many members who had been “pinning for their deprived benefits had died and without enjoying the fruits of their hard labour” and questioned the chief minister if his government “was waiting for the remaining lot to move to heaven by using delaying and go-slow tactics in the matter”.
The retired teachers have promised not to give up their fight.
