CANACONA: The stinking municipal fish market at Chaudi is to get a facelift worth Rs 2.8 lakh, as tenders have been floated for developmental works in all 10 wards of Canacona Municipal Council (CMC).
According to CMC Chairperson Madhav Dessai, tenders have already been floated to repair and renovate the existing municipal fish market at Chaudi.
“Since I have taken over, tenders worth Rs13 lakh have been floated and besides the fish market, each of the 10 wards will get Rs 1 lakh worth of developmental works in the form of pavers, construction of gutters and repair/construction of internal roads,” said Dessai.
Incidentally, locals have accused the fish vendors of abandoning the fish market and occupying the open space outside the market, thereby blocking public movement in the area.
Fish vendors have, however, complained that poor maintenance of the fish market has compelled them to abandon the premises.
