PANJIM: A new ferryboat along the Sao Pedro-Divar route has been commissioned while two more will be added to the existing fleet operating across 20-odd routes.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant commissioned the new ferryboat Mandovi – I (PNJ-841) at Panjim ferry. Unlike the grade separator inauguration wherein social distancing norm was thrown to the wind, CM ensured social distancing at the launch of the conventional passenger boat on Wednesday.
In August 2019, the River Navigation Department had ordered three new boats from M/s Aquarus Shipyard Pvt Ltd at a cost of around Rs 1.89 crore of which Mandovi-I was handed over. The remaining two are under construction and their deliveries to the government are expected by the first week of June.
Mandovi-I has been deputed along Sao Pedro-Divar route as this ferryboat is also equipped with all the safety features such as firefighting equipment and life saving equipment.
