PANJIM: After the massive defection and the consequent embarrassment the Congress faced last week, Girish Chodankar who has resigned from the post of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president has decided to continue on the position till the party High Command takes a decision on his resignation.
“After my resignation the entire episode happened and there is a demoralising atmosphere among the workers. I don’t want to run away from my responsibility at this stage. Till the time a decision is taken on my resignation, I will work like a fulltime president and take on this government. I will visit all 10 constituencies (being represented) by the 10 betrayers; our workers are agitated,” Chodankar said.
When asked about the inability to choose a Leader of Opposition, he stated that there is no issue as far as Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader is concerned. “The senior leaders had already excused themselves from taking the responsibility. The opinions have been sent to the party High Command and a decision will be announced in a day or two,” he added.
He further informed that meetings of GPCC and State office bearers would be held soon and the current political developments would be introspected. “The resolution of the South Goa District Congress Committee is an expression of the sentiments of Goans and Congress workers. The resolution will be forwarded to the party High Command. At the same time an elaborate discussion is needed since the entire country is facing the issue,” he responded when asked about the re-entry of those who have defected from the party.
Girish stated that neither the Congress Working Committee (CWC) nor the GPCC has passed a resolution for merger. “Then merger cannot happen,” he added.
