PANJIM: Bharat Mukti Morcha condemned the continued violations of fishing rights in the Zuari river through water sports activities. The group demanded that Hotel Grand Hyatt must stop water sports in the Zuari river and that the Fisheries department must revoke permissions granted to the hotel.
Addressing media persons Thursday, the Morcha said that it wanted mini purse seine fishing and trawlers fishing illegally to stop in the Zuari river.
It has demanded that a permanent patrol ship be positioned in the Zuari river to protect the interests of the traditional fishermen of Siridao, Bambolim, Nauxim, Odxel and Cacra.
Relying on traditional access to the beach and places of worship, the Morcha also demanded that Grand Hyatt open access to the chapel and the cross, both currently included within the compound of the hotel.
The Morcha has alleged that despite there being a ban, trawlers continue to fish in the Zuari river and called on the government to enforce the ban.
