PANJIM: The State government on Tuesday decided to rehabilitate the legal kiosks, which were demolished from outside the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, compound wall.

The government has proposed to construct permanent structure to house the vendors, who have valid licence from the local panchayat to operate.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant chaired a meeting with Santa Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes, St Andre MLA Francis Silveira, North Collector, GMC Dean and others to work out a detail plan to rehabilitate the legal kiosk operators as soon as possible.
Several illegal kiosks that were operational from outside GMC were razed by the North Collector last week. Majority of the vendors had set up their business outside GMC for over a decade and as per sources only five vendors had legal operational licence from the panchayat.
Speaking to HERALD, Santa Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes said that the meeting decided to rehabilitate the kiosk operators with valid licence to a permanent hygienic structure at the earliest.
“Everyone who has valid licence will be accommodated. The local panchayat will undertake the demarcation for construction of the shelter,” he said. As many as 40 fruit vendors and “gadda” operators were affected with the demolition.
