Heavy rains lash Canacona

Fire services personnel kept on their toes

CANACONA: Due to heavy rains early morning, Monday the fire station at Canacona received 3 calls from different locations in the Taluka. The first call came at 3.00 pm after water logging at a private hotel construction site at Palolem. The fire tender was dispatched and the water block was cleared. A resident residing in the vicinity however said the local NGO “Goenkar” had complained to the authorities of various violations by the proponents of this project and also pointed out there would be water logging in the area as the builders had blocked the natural water way.
Second call came at 3.30 pm after a tamarind tree got uprooted and fell on electric overhead wires and blocking the road at Ponsulem. As soon as the tree was cut and cleared for traffic another call came from Mashem of a boulder having fallen on the road at the intersection at Nirakar temple. It was cleared but according to a resident, Manoj Prabhugaonkar the vertical wall by the road side has become unstable and more soil and boulders might come crashing down as the soil has become loose at this portion. 
Sources told Herald the joint Mamlatdar of Canacona who is part of the disaster management team of Canacona has been informed the danger this will cause to motorists.
