Indian batter Tilak Varma has suffered a major setback after sustaining an abdominal injury that is set to rule him out of the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand. The 23-year-old was rushed to a hospital in Rajkot after complaining of severe pain while representing Hyderabad in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.
A BCCI official told PTI that scans revealed Tilak was suffering from testicular torsion, a condition that causes sudden and intense pain, and doctors advised immediate surgery. The cricketer subsequently underwent a successful operation and is reported to be recovering well.

“Tilak is doing fine now. We will share updates on his recovery and return-to-play timeline after consulting the medical panel,” the official said.
According to PTI, Tilak is certain to miss the New Zealand series, forcing the team management to explore replacement options. Shreyas Iyer, meanwhile, has been declared match-fit.
