PANJIM: Following a series of allegations about irregularities and lack of services at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, the State government on Thursday appointed a Commission of Inquiry headed by retired District Collector N D Agarwal to look into the complaints regarding the functioning of the State-run hospital.
In an order issued, Under Secretary (Health) Sangeeta Porob has said that the inquiry commission has been appointed under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952.
“The commission is appointed for the purpose of making an inquiry into the various problems highlighted in the media in respect of GMC,” she said.
The commission has to complete the inquiry and submit its report to the government within three weeks. It has to study and scrutinize all the complaints received from various sections, including doctors, staffers, patients, NGOs, and thereafter provide recommendations for overcoming the issues.
Earlier this month, the government had appointed IAS Officer Sachin Shinde as administrator to GMC for the effective management and improvement of healthcare delivery.
GMC is currently facing criticism from the Congress and NGO GenNext over its pathetic condition and poor quality of medical service offered to the people.
