GPCC President John Fernandes blamed BJP for delay in granting of special status to Goa since, he said the Assembly resolution was passed just few months back. He was responding to a question as to why UPA did not grant special status to Goa, when Sonia Gandhi had promised it in 2009. He said, “During a recent meeting with the prime minister and UPA Chairperson wherein the delegation comprised our (Congress) MP, the government spent 95 percent of the time talking on the issue of mining whereas only five percent was dedicated to special status … we are more serious on the subject,” he said.
