Former Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, Justice Ferdino Rebello, will hold a public meeting on January 15 at the MCC Hall in Margao at 3:30 pm as part of a proposed “people’s movement” aimed at creating a broad-based, non-political citizens’ platform in Goa.
The initiative seeks to bring together activists, non-governmental organisations and concerned citizens to deliberate on a proposed 10-point charter that addresses key issues affecting the state. The meetings are intended to foster dialogue, raise awareness and encourage collective participation in tackling long-standing challenges faced by Goa.

Speaking about the initiative, Justice Rebello said the movement aims to deepen public understanding of critical issues and ensure coordinated action among various groups. He emphasized that sustained engagement and informed participation are essential for any meaningful people’s movement to succeed.
Highlighting the need for multiple interactions, Justice Rebello noted that successful movements depend on people clearly understanding the issues at hand and on local groups working in unison. He also underscored the importance of consolidating the legacy of past activism by creating a shared database and organisational framework, so that future struggles are unified and strategic rather than fragmented.
