PONDA: The Shantadurga and Mangeshi Devasthan have strongly refuted the allegations of impersonation, cheating, and forgery levelled against the head of Kavalem Matth.

Dr Sachin Mantri, a well-wisher and follower of the Matth, has described the accusations as a publicity stunt designed to influence the upcoming Devasthan elections in Goa, particularly those of Shantadurga and Mangeshi Devasthan.
Speaking on behalf of the Math administration, Dr Mantri emphasised that the allegations were unfounded, stating, “We believe this is a tactic aimed at gaining leverage in the Devasthan elections. The Hon. Swamiji is a highly respected figure in the religious community, especially within the GSB community, and these accusations are an attack on his reputation and hurt religious sentiments.”
When asked about potential legal action or a counter-complaint, Dr Mantri assured that the Matth’s leadership would deliberate on the matter. “We are confident that there is no substance to these claims,” he said, adding “We are happy to let the police investigate. They will find no basis for these accusations.”
Mantri also cautioned against declaring guilt before a proper investigation, highlighting that the High Court had already ruled on the matter. “The police are the proper authority to handle this investigation, and any unwarranted claims or propaganda will only damage public sentiment and religious harmony,” he added.
The controversy arose after Bhushan Jack and Dr PS Ramani lodged an FIR accusing three Kavalem Matth office bearers of fraudulently executing a Power of Attorney (POA) in 2018 to sell property in Queula village, Ponda. However, Dr Mantri pointed out that the documents in question had already been declared null and void by the High Court, and he speculated that the complaint could be an attempt to exert pressure for control over the Kavale Matth affairs.
The Matth has vowed to cooperate with authorities, confident that the truth will prevail through proper legal channels.
