PONDA: PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar on Tuesday said that the Khandepar Bridge Belgaum-Goa Highway will be inaugurated in June 2018 and the same will help to reduce traffic congestion on this stretch of national highway.
Addressing the Goa Liberation Day function at Kranti Maidan in Ponda, Sudin said that the government is building a 25-MLD water treatment plant at Ganjem Usgao, 27-MLD plant at Opa, to solve the water problem faced by the people.
To reduce traffic congestion in Ponda, he said traffic management plan would be made and handed over to the municipality for its implementation. He also said the information about freedom fighters will be displayed soon on the pillars erected at the renovated Kranti Maidan.
He said that though many Goans appreciate the good works done by the Portuguese, they are still unhappy at destruction caused to Goan bridges and Opa pipelines while leaving Goa at the time of liberation. He called upon the Portuguese to apologise to Goans and freedom fighters for damages they caused to the bridges.
He lauded the first chief minister Dayanand Bandodkar for the developments undertaken by him.
Meanwhile, he appealed the people and Ponda Municipal Council to cooperate with him in completing various works undertaken in Ponda.
Earlier, Sudin paid floral tributes at the martyrs’ memorial, unfurled the national and inspected the guard of honour from jawans.
The function was also attended by Ponda MLA Ravi Naik, Deputy Chairperson of PMC Shantaram Kolvekar, Councillors Sunil Desai, Vidya Punalekar and Nidhi Mamlekar; panchas and sarpachas from surrounding villages.
