Khandepar locals oppose water treatment plant

Claim project will hamper traditional business activities and also cause flooding in the area

PONDA: Khandepar locals along with Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party leader on Friday opposed the proposed Water Resources Department’s construction of bandara and a water treatment plant project, at Murdi, Khandepar.

Speaking to the media persons, Vilas Gaude, Santosh Gaude and Sunil Gaude along with MGP leader Dr Ketan Bhatikar stated that the project will hamper the traditional business activities and also cause flooding in the area.

They urged the WRD not to force the project in the area.

Gaude said that the locals had submitted a memorandum to the various departments opposing the plant. 

He questioned the need for additional water treatment plant to supply drinking water to Priol Constituency, when already provision had been made from Ganjem Usgao water treatment plant. 

He also pointed out that during heavy monsoon, the OPA Khandepar River flows at dangerous level and causes flooding in Khandepar area.

The locals said that they were not taken into confidence in planning of the project and added that the WRD should not take them for granted.
