The train did not move for about an hour and none of the passengers was aware as to what was holding the train to go further. Then some tea vendors from the railway canteen informed us that there is a problem ahead and will be halted for some more time.
It was then some passengers went to the station master who informed that there is delay for about 2 hours as a goods train had derailed near Chiplun. Our train finally moved from Khed station at 14:30. There are two things which Konkan Railways should have done. Firstly, after they knew about the derailment they should not have allowed the trains from Mumbai and also from Karnataka to take off as a large number of trains were made to halt at various stations and one can understand the plight of aged, children and foreign tourist who were stranded at various stations. Our train waited at Khed station for seven and half hours.
Secondly, the railways should have some system in place to inform the passengers in all the coaches so that the passengers know as to what is happening.
Some of the passengers had to hire private vehicles for their onward journey as nobody was sure whether the train will move or not. I hope the KRC will take better action in future to keep the passenger informed next time. The train finally reached Margao at midnight.
