CALANGUTE: In a novel protest, locals of Nagoa on Friday painted the speed breakers along the Nagoa-Parra-Mapusa road after accusing authorities of failing to take up the job.
The locals claimed that they were forced to take this step, as the two-wheeler riders, unaware of the speed breakers often fell at the speed breakers, injuring themselves and damaging their vehicles. The locals hoped that the authorities concerned will at least get the speed breakers painted.
“We took up painting of the speed breakers, as every day the two-wheeler riders were falling off their vehicles, injuring themselves and damaging their bikes. The speed breakers were put up almost two months ago and are not painted till date,” a local said.
“How will the motorists and others realize that there exists a speed breaker? We hope the authorities will now paint the speed breakers and avoid the falls more so as the monsoon is fast approaching,” added the local.
It may be recalled that the speed breakers were put up at the turn near Hotel Nagoa Grande due to accidents, especially due to rash and negligent driving. However, the speed breakers were not painted for long despite demands from the locals. The matter was even brought to the notice of Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, who had assured to look in the matter.
