PERNEM: Mandrem constituents especially from Morjim, Arambol, Paliem and Keri have complained of irregular water supply throughout the year.

In some villages in the constituency people get water on alternate days while others do not even receive for more than 2 hours. Those who receive water supply on alternate days are forced to store water. Pipeline bursts and less pressure are regular features in these areas. The tail-end of the constituency does not receive enough water sometimes even for a week.
People have accused the PWD officials of manipulating the water supply as some villages and wards receive regular supply.
They even claimed that earlier they use to receive water at night however recently the supply has stopped.
“The government talks about free water but here we don’t even receive water even after paying the bills. We don’t want free but regular water at least for 2 to 3 hours a day”, Sudesh Naik, a local said.
Paliem sarpanch Uday Gawandi said, “From the past many years we are facing water shortage problem. We receive water from the Arambol tank. However, if Arambol does not receive water then how we are going to get water supply? The local representatives have failed to solve this long pending issue”.
It is pertinent to note that a water treatment plant for Mandrem constituency has been a long pending demand of the locals. Former MLA and ex-CM Laxmikant Parsekar had even made a provision to have a 30 MLD Water treatment plant at Tuem. However, the current MLA Dayanand Sopte failed to take up the project.
