PANJIM: Former president of Goa Cricket Association (GCA) Dayanand Narvekar was not given any relief by the High Court on his petition pleading that the second First Information Report (FIR) against him in the fund misappropriation case be quashed.
Narvekar had moved the court last month submitting that he was not involved in the scam and was neither aware of transactions between GCA and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He said the transaction and correspondence between the cricketing bodies was at the secretary’s level.
The court’s order comes after a reply submitted by the Economic Offence Cell (EOC), based on a notice issued following the petition. EOC was also asked to produce the case diary of the case.
In December 2016, EOC had registered an FIR against Narvekar, Chetan Dessai (current president), Vinod Phadke (secretary) and Akbar Mulla (treasurer) under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy for allegedly siphoning off Rs 1 crore of the GCA. According to the police, ‘the accused hatched a criminal conspiracy and deposited a cheque of Rs 1 crore in a fraudulent bank account and thereby misappropriated funds sent by the BCCI to the GCA 2006-07.’
