CALANGUTE: North Goa Tourist Taxi Owners Association has hit out at allegations that its members are involved or associated with illegal prostitution activities along coastal villages of the state.
NGTTOA members alleged that they are being unnecessarily targeted by vested interests and claimed they were, in fact, helping the police to trap those involved in illegal sex trade.
Speaking to Herald, NGTTOA members including General Secretary Vinayak Nanoskar and Vice President Ravindra Vengurlekar insisted that none of their members have ever been caught by the police for being involved in illegal prostitution.
“In fact, we have been helping police to catch those involved in the illegal trade. The Association has not suspended any member so far in connection with links to prostitution racket or activities,” clarified Nanoskar.
Earlier in the day, a large number of taxi owners and Save Calangute members gathered near Hotel Neelam Grande seeking clarification from Nanoskar and Herald over a statement by the general secretary on the alleged suspension of members. The matter was later put to rest after Nanoskar clarified on his statements.
