Now on, video recording of gram sabhas must

PANJIM: Days after the gram sabha at Loliem-Pollem over the IIT project that turned stormy, the State government on Thursday made video recording of gram sabhas compulsory.

The government issued an amendment to the Goa Panchayats (Gram Sabha Meetings) Rules, 2016 making video recordings of the proceedings of gram sabha compulsory. “The proceedings of every gram sabha shall be recorded in a video film and shall form part of records of gram sabha,” the notification issued by Panchayats Director Gurudas Pilarnekar states. 
The State Cabinet had in July accorded its approval to the amendment. The decision was taken following requests from panchayats as unruly incidents were reported during the meetings.
At the Loliem-Pollem gram sabha, the sarpanch was reportedly manhandled, leading to some tense moments.
