VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council chairperson Deepak Naik on Friday issued a stern warning to furniture traders having their stalls at the Saptah fair, to pay their licence fees by Friday or Saturday, failing which the council would seize their goods.
The warning was issued during the meeting called by the MMC chairperson, which was attended by furniture stall vendors on Thursday afternoon.
Regarding the payment of municipal licence fees, Naik said, “Since the last two years, furniture vendors at the Saptah fair are playing “hide and seek” game and whenever the municipal staff visits them to collect the same, these traders make some excuses of paying the full amount the next day and later end up paying a small amount to the council.” He said that the issue was brought to his notice by the municipal staff following which he had called for a meeting with furniture traders prior to the commencement of Saptah fair wherein the vendors agreed to first pay the municipal licence fees and then start erecting stalls.
Naik despite giving them so many benefits, the furniture traders erected the stalls and failed pay to the licence fees.
