CALANGUTE: The ‘Circle of Dreams’ project at Nagoa is reportedly turning out to be a nightmare for the locals, as their taps went dry for the day due to breakage of the PWD water pipeline.
The incident occurred a day after the locals demanded to stop construction work of retaining wall running over the water pipeline.
Though the GSIDC contractor opted for the re-alignment of the retaining wall due to the water pipeline following suggestions by Arpora Panch Agostinho D’Souza and others in consultation with the PWD officials, the water pipeline kept haunting the contractor.
When the contractor began the work by noon, the water pipeline was damaged by the shovel carrying out excavation work, resulting in flooding of paddy fields.
When contacted, GSIDC Supervising Engineer Sameer Talker said: “We drew a new alignment for the retaining wall in consultation with Arpora panchas and PWD officials.”
“However, we found a small pipeline which was taken care of instantly. Close to that was another water pipeline which was damaged, flooding the paddy fields. We went ahead with the work based on their assurances.”
Calangute MLA Michael Lobo regretted the incident of breakage of PWD water pipeline due to the work undertaken by the GSIDC contractor.
“The re-alignment of the retaining wall was suggested by Agostinho D’Souza and others after locals stopped the work on the present site.”
