PANJIM: Having failed to trace the identity of a newborn, whose mutilated body was found at Siridao Beach, the Agassaim Police has issued a public notice seeking citizens’ assistance to establish the abandon deceased’s identity.

“…on September 25, 2020 prior to 14.30 hours unknown accused parents of an unknown infant child aged about one month, disposed the dead body of their infant child in hazardous manner and the remnants of which, that is, head with attached right and, left leg and part of a thigh region, were found lying at Jesus Nazareth Wado, Siridao, Tiswadi,” a note by Agassaim Police with a photo of the newborn’s face, reads.

The police have been scanning through details of parents of newborns across Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, Chicalim Hospital and Hospicio Hospital but with no breakthrough yet, the team has sought the assistance of local newspapers and citizens to identify the victim.
The body is preserved at GMC even as post-mortem report concluded that injuries were bite marks of wild creatures. The investigation is carried out on lines with the offence registered under Section 318 (concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body) of Indian Penal Code but accused — once arrested might be booked for murder if evidence points in that direction.
