Activist flags dust and water pollution, urges pollution board to act against violations
PONDA: Residents of Borim and Shiroda have expressed serious concern over potential health hazards following the release of massive clouds of polluted smoke from an iron manufacturing establishment in the area. Social activist Sandeep Parkar has lodged a complaint with the Goa State Pollution Control Board, expressing apprehension that smoke emanating from the chimney of an iron manufacturing company in Borim may pose a significant threat to the health of citizens living in nearby residential areas.

In addition to air pollution, concerns have also been raised over waste allegedly being dumped into the river, resulting in water pollution and posing a threat to marine life. Locals in the area have voiced anxiety over the increasing levels of pollution and have urged the company to adopt proper pollution control measures.
Parkar said it was equally important for the establishment to recognise its responsibility to bring the rising levels of dust pollution under control. “The dust pollution is becoming unbearable in the current situation,” he said, adding that officials of the concerned departments have been approached through email correspondence, requesting them to inspect the site and take action against establishments found to be violating pollution control norms.
Residents have demanded immediate intervention by the authorities to safeguard public health and the environment in the Borim-Shiroda region.
