PONDA: Without naming any former minister or the government officials, Ponda MLA Ravi Naik on Tuesday alleged that the pending Rs 536 crore sewerage project work in Ponda is a massive scam.
He urged Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to order a CBI inquiry into the scam.

“The project tendered and work carried out is illegal as it is done without land acquisition. The government should probe into the project and those involved in this massive scam as it is taxpayers’ hard earned money that is involved,” Ravi said.
“The total cost of the Ponda sewerage project and its surrounding areas is Rs 536 crore. The work commenced in February 2016 and the stipulated date of completion was April 14, 2018. But the completion date was extended to May 2020. Despite this, there are no chances of completion of this project in next few years and so demand Vigilance Department’s probe initially and later can be handed over to the CBI,” he said.
“The project is incomplete at various places and also face opposition at various places from the locals at Curti and Bandora,” Ravi alleged.
He said that around four sewage treatment plants proposed at various places including Curti, Bandora and Ponda are incomplete and without land acquisition. The work is pending and therefore the government probe through Vigilance Department is important and later can be handed over to the CBI to take action.
