The nomination of Govind Parvatkar in Porvorim constituency has raised eyebrows and has caused resentment among many workers of the local BJP unit.
On getting information that Shripad Naik had gone to meet Parvatkar in Porvorim on Monday, several BJP workers called on Shripad Naik to enquire about the reasons for opting out and for suggesting Parvatkar’s name in Porvorim constituency.
“Parvatkar is a defeated candidate, who had contested unsuccessfully twice from Cumbharjua and once from St Andre. The BJP should therefore give the chance to a new candidate, who has worked for the party for the last several years,” voiced many BJP workers.
Speaking to Herald, BJP ticket aspirant Mahanand Asnodkar confirmed the meeting at Parvatkar’s residence on Monday, but played down a possible rebellion among local BJP workers in Porvorim.
“The BJP workers have put forth their views before North Goa MP Shripad Naik. The issue of Porvorim ticket has been discussed at a meeting in the BJP office in Panjim,” said Asnodkar.
“If BJP High Command re-confirms the ticket for Parvatkar, I will have no objection and will work for Parvatkar and strive to get him elected in Porvorim constituency,” added Asnodkar.
