PONDA: Advocating a need to protect senior citizens from harassment by family, RTI activist Rajan Ghate has urged the government to initiate necessary steps in this regard.
Ghate, citing a case in Ponda, said a senior citizen had filed a police complaint against his son and two others for harassment and theft. He said it’s high time that the government take stringent measures to protect the interest of senior citizens.
Ponda police said Amitkumar Shirodkar (38) was arrested on Thursday following a complaint by his father in September 2013. Complainant Ganpat Shirodkar, a retired army man, now lodged in an old-aged home, had claimed that his son along with two others had committed theft and had assaulted him after locking him at his residence at Khadpabandh-Ponda. Ghate said he took up the matter with the family, but to no avail.
