Railway Ministry approves Rs 1,486 cr for construction of Old Goa, Pernem tunnels

MARGAO: Santosh Jha, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Konkan Railway, informed that nearly Rs 1,486 crore have been approved for the construction of the Old Goa and Pernem railway tunnels in Goa.

Jha also mentioned that Konkan Railway made a profit of Rs 301 crore in the last financial year and announced that the corporation would soon recruit 190 personnel.

“The Ministry of Railways has sanctioned fresh equity of Rs 1,486 crore for the construction of the Old Goa and Pernem tunnels in Goa under Plan Head 61 PSU,” Jha said.

As reported by KRC officials, on Independence Day, Santosh Kumar Jha conducted the flag hoisting ceremony in Navi Mumbai. During the event, Jha praised the work of Konkan Railway employees and shared key achievements and future plans for the organization. 

According to Jha, Konkan Railway has successfully completed new projects worth over Rs 1,200 crore through competitive tenders. In the 2023-24 fiscal year, Konkan Railway nets its highest-ever profit of Rs 301 crore. 

He also clarified that the recruitment notification for 190 posts in Konkan Railway will be issued soon and emphasized that passenger safety will remain a top priority for Konkan Railway.

“Solar power plants at Konkan Railway stations generated 3.18 lakh units of electricity from January to July 2024, resulting in savings of Rs 38.57 lakh on electricity bills. Additionally, 26 missing children were rescued from trains and railway premises along the Konkan Railway line and safely returned to their parents or Child Helpline,” he informed. 

He further reported that the development of the Goods Shed at Thokur in Karnataka has been completed, while work is ongoing at the Goods Sheds in Udupi (Karnataka), Indapur (Maharashtra), and Verna (Goa).
