SANGUEM: In a relief to farmers at Borkoteagall-Uguem and surrounding areas in Sanguem from water logging problem, the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) has dug a water drain alongside the road to ensure smooth flow of rainwater.
It may be recalled that the farmers had blamed the incomplete construction of the first phase of the mining bypass road from Uguem to Guddemoll for the resulting inundation of paddy fields in the area.
The farmers led by Antonio Silva claimed that due to the incomplete construction of the bypass road, the rivulets across the bypass road have been filled with mud, causing water to flow into the nearby roadside paddy fields.
Due to inundation and excess water, the farmers had to keep on hold the transplantation operations, while some claimed that the seeds were washed away.
Acting swiftly, the GSIDC on Saturday deployed a machine to dig a drain alongside the main road to divert the water into the rivulet and relieve the farmers from water logging problem.
Farmers Association Uguem President Francisco Carvalho thanked GSIDC for the immediate reliefand requested for follow up in the matter during monsoon.
