Borkar said that he has moved a Private Member’s Bill called Persons of Goan Origin (POGO) for the upcoming Assembly Session. Seeking support of all legislators, he said that that people of Goa will come to know which MLAs are in favour of the POGO Bill and who are against it.

“I have submitted copy of my bill to Secretary (Legislature) and will introduce it in the Assembly,” he said claiming that the main objective of the bill is to protect the rights of Persons of Goan Origin in respect of employment benefits of government schemes, lease, transfer of Comunidade land acquired by the government for commercial purposes, rights to change their names and surnames and to make certain other provisions connected therewith.

Borkar said that it is necessary to give better and more protection to Persons of Goan Origin in view of Goa attaining liberation 14 years after independence, limited education and employment opportunities for Goans, distinct culture, language, traditions, geographical area, peculiar socio-political and economic circumstances in the State affecting Goans and changing demography vis-a-vis the small size of the State and its population.

Borkar said that during Assembly elections, the RG had assured people of Goa that if the party win polls then it will enact a legislation on POGO so as to give rights to Goans.
