‘Rohit Is Moving Well’: Morne Morkel Ends Injury Concerns Ahead of Afghanistan ODI

India assistant coach Morne Morkel has dismissed concerns over Rohit Sharma’s fitness ahead of the first ODI against Afghanistan, confirming that the veteran opener is fully fit and available for selection. Questions had emerged after Rohit was seen wearing a specialised thigh pad during training in Dharamshala, leading to speculation that he was still managing a hamstring injury sustained during IPL 2026.

However, Morkel clarified that there are no injury concerns surrounding the 38-year-old batter. According to the former South African pacer, Rohit has successfully completed all fitness assessments and has been training without any discomfort. During practice sessions, the opener faced bowlers including Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar and Prince Yadav without showing any signs of physical issues.

“I don’t think there’s any issue. He’s passed all his fitness tests. He’s cleared and ready to go,” Morkel said on the eve of the series opener.

With Virat Kohli unavailable, Rohit’s role becomes even more significant for Team India. Beyond his batting, the experienced campaigner is expected to provide valuable guidance to captain Shubman Gill and the rest of the squad. Morkel highlighted the calmness and leadership Rohit brings to the dressing room, adding that his presence remains a major boost for the team heading into the series.
