VASCO: Stating that the Holy Mass unites the family and community at large, Fr Vithal Miranda, parish priest of Our Lady of Candelaria Church Baina, Vasco, added that the service of love, which first starts with the family at home, should later be spread among neighbours.
Fr Miranda was delivering his homily at the Baina church to mark Maundy Thursday services in the Parish, as similar services were conducted by Catholic parishes all over the State and across the world.
During the Mass, Fr Miranda symbolically washed the feet of the parishioners, to commemorate a similar action of Jesus on the eve of his crucifixion.
“On this day, Lord Jesus Christ washed the feet of his disciples before the Last Supper and directed them to follow his example. During the Last Supper, Jesus instituted the first holy mass,” said Fr Miranda, during his homily before a packed congregation.
“On this day, Jesus also instituted the priesthood,” said Fr Miranda and he urged the laity to pray for priests all over the world.
Commenting on the work of Mother Teresa, Fr Miranda stated that Mother Teresa understood the meaning of Christ’s gesture of washing the feet of his disciples. “She followed the example Christ in letter and spirit by helping the downtrodden,” he said.
