VASCO: Union Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik has assured all support to Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) after reviewing all the projects currently being executed by GSL, on Monday.
Naik showed keen interest in the ongoing construction of ships, ongoing modernization, employees’ welfare schemes, and implementation of government policies among other areas. He urged GSL to continue the work of delivering ships on time and efforts in export market. “The ministry will give all required support to the shipyard to complete the projects on time. We will also ensure that their order book is full,” Naik told media persons after the meeting.
Earlier, the MoS laid the keel for 5th Coast Guard OPV, under construction at GSL in the presence of Cmde B B Nagpal, CMD GSL and other senior officials of GSL, Indian Coast Guard and Navy.
Cmde B B Nagpal, NM, IN (Retd), CMD GSL gave a detailed presentation to Naik on progress of ongoing 5 CGOPV Project, upcoming infrastructure as well as GSL’s efforts towards indigenization, AI among other similar initiatives. He was also shown the upcoming infrastructure sites under advanced phase of completion, which will provide GSL indigenous capability, to build weapon intensive high tech ships for Defence and for exports.
Naik further reviewed their future plans as well, which included the Missile Frigate Project and MCMV Project.
Later, Shipyard’s workers led by Kishor Shet felicitated the union minister on his maiden visit to GSL and assured him of continued support to the management in ensuring completion of ongoing projects on time.
